Your Checklist for a Successful Music Release

At Studio Chaddy, we work directly with managers, major and indie labels, and artists at all levels. No matter who you’re releasing through, the process is the same – strategy, relationships, and execution.

Here’s the release checklist you can use to prepare your next drop:

1 – Final Assets Ready

  • Masters delivered in WAV + MP3 (16/24 bit) with full quality check
  • Metadata complete – ISRCs, ISWCs, credits, and split sheets finalised
  • Artwork aligns to platform specs and your visual identity for this release

2 – Press Kit (EPK)

  • Keep your bio, press photos, music links, and socials in one place
  • Add tour/show history, press quotes, and streaming highlights where you have them
  • Share as a simple link – no large attachments
  • Need more detail? Here’s a clear EPK guide

3 – Targeted Outreach

  • Pitch to labels & A&R reps by showing your sound, story, and long-term vision
  • Pitch to managers & agents by proving your live potential and career momentum
  • Pitch to press & blogs with a strong story angle alongside your music
  • Pitch to venues & promoters by showing your live history and ability to sell tickets

Focus on who you’re sending to and why – never blast the same pitch to everyone.

4 – Building Your Network

  • Tap into curated contact lists from trusted directories or industry associations
  • Start small if you’re building relationships yourself – first blogs, then venues, then playlists
  • Leverage managers, labels, or publicists if you have them – their contacts get your kit in front of the right people faster

5 – Live Strategy

  • Book a release show to give fans and press a reason to gather around your music
  • Approach booking agents once you can show consistent live draw
  • Capture content from shows (photos, clips, posters) so you can keep pitching with proof

6 – Visuals & Videos

  • Plan visuals that match the scale of your release – from a creative DIY video to a full production shoot
  • Work with directors when you want to access video premieres or blog placements
  • Keep at least one strong video (music video, live session, or lyric video) linked in your press kit

7 – Distribution & Rollout

  • Schedule your release at least 6–8 weeks out to give time for DSP playlist pitching
  • Run a pre-save campaign and start teasing content before release day
  • Map out a waterfall strategy (singles leading to an EP/album) to stretch your campaign

For a deeper breakdown, here’s a release timeline checklist.

8 – Post-Release Plan

  • Keep engagement running with live videos, alternate versions, remixes, and behind-the-scenes content
  • Schedule at least 4–6 weeks of content before your release drops so you’re not scrambling later
